Celebrate the warmth of the season with this deep yet refreshing summer sangria recipe, bursting with citrus, dark rum, full red wine & pomegranate liqueur!
Just like that, my summer vacation is over.
Booooo. Hissss. *throws rotten fruit*
Mr. Crumby and I enjoyed a blissful ten days of doing not much more than (lots and lots of) gaming, eating pizza every other day, sleeping in, cuddling in for a Netflix binge, and just generally relaxing – something we don’t get to do on a regular basis.
Brace yourselves for some real me talk. Combined, we left the house a total of three times, otherwise I went outside only to walk the dog and water the garden (when it wasn’t raining). I did one of the four loads of laundry I needed to do. We snacked on everything from granola bars to cheap Fruit Loops to grapes (healthy!) to a bag of candy corn I found in the pantry (don’t judge me.)
In terms of deadly sins, I’m pretty sure I at least skimmed over all of them last week at some point.
Oh, and did I mention the yummy things we drank? We had a different beverage every night with dinner; cider, beer, margaritas, white wine, red wine, and my favorite: this Pomegranate Summer Sangria recipe that I threw together with my favorite liqueur of all time!
You may recall how near and dear sangrias are to my heart; if not, you only have to look back at my recipe collection from the past year to see that I’ve shared three already, one for each season.
I admit, I did skip winter, but it’s coming.
Winter is coming.
(badum-tish)
I shared a springtime and autumn sangria though, each one accentuating the fruits and spices of their respective season. As much as I loved them, and in spite of this sweltering hot season being my least favorite of all, this Pomegranate Summer Sangria is totally my number one so far.
Maybe it’s the deep, full-bodied pinot noir base that I adore so much. Or the bright, ruby tinted citrus dancing with the sweetened up dark rum. One thing is for sure: it absolutely has something to do with the tangy PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur that inspired the idea.
This might sound odd, but sangria makes me wanna get outdoors, chill out by the pool in a floppy hat, and do all those normal summer things I skipped on my vacation. Some of my best summer memories have been created this way; a big pool party with my best friends, complete with lots of grilled food, snacks, games, and plenty of delicious drinks like this!
Now that we’re more of the family persuasion (i.e. most of us have small children), we have to adjust our normal party plans a bit, but party we will!
Thankfully, summer just started, and there’s still plenty of time for my friends to gather for a shindig just like mine.
Oh, and make up a batch of this delicious sangria! You’ll thank me later.

Pomegranate Summer Sangria
Ingredients
- ½ cup dark rum
- ½ cup simple syrup
- 1 bottle red wine pinot noir, merlot or cabernet
- ½ cup pomegranate liqueur
- 1 orange thinly sliced
- 1 lime thinly sliced
- 1 lemon thinly sliced
- 1 apple thinly sliced
- Arils of 1/2 pomegranate
- Lemon-lime or club soda
- Ice
Instructions
- In a large pitcher, add all fruit.
- Combine rum and simple syrup in a measuring cup and whisk. Pour wine, pomegranate liqueur, and rum-syrup mixture over the fruit in the pitcher and stir to combine, muddling the fruit in the process gently to release the juices and oils from the rinds.
- Cover and refrigerate for 4-24 hours. The flavors become more intense as it sits, so the longer you wait, the better it will taste!
- When ready to serve, portion out sangria into glasses, and splash ¼-1/3 cup of lemon-lime or club soda in each glass, and top with ice. Enjoy, but drink responsibly – this stuff is STRONG!
