Sparkling Blood Orange Margarita

Some freshly squeezed OJ and a hearty splash of sparkling wine take a classic tequila drink to new heights in this Blood Orange Margarita! This gorgeous citrus is only available in the winter, so enjoy these cocktails while you can!

  • 3 ounces blood orange juice fresh-squeezed; about 2 oranges
  • 2 ounces silver tequila
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice fresh-squeezed; about 1 lime
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • 1 2/3 cup ice divided; cubed or crushed
  • 3 ounces sparkling wine Moscato di Asti or sparkling Rosé work well
  • Kosher salt for garnish
  • Blood orange slices for garnish
  • Lime slices for garnish


  • Rub the edge of a wine or whiskey glass with a lime wedge, then dip in salt.
  • Combine tequila, blood orange and lime juice, bitters, and 1 cup ice into a cocktail shaker. Shake for 30 seconds until chilled.
  • Fill glass with remaining ice, then strain margarita into the glass. Top off with sparkling wine of your choice.
  • Garnish with blood orange and lime slices.


If blood oranges are hard to find, or out of season, Navel oranges will make a suitable substitute.
