Whether it’s a quick breakfast, simple side, or yummy snack, this Summer Fruit Salad with Citrus Poppy Seed Yogurt is as tasty as it is refreshing. Melons, berries, peaches, and bing cherries are the stars here, but the orange-lime fruit salad dressing brings it all together into one must-eat summer recipe!

And though she be but little, she is fierce.
When you think “summer fruit salad”, what pops in your head? A giant, potluck-style bowl of chopped melon. Freshly washed berries. Vibrant colors. Smells to make your mouth water.
This is pretty much the same thing, but individually served for cuteness.
When I developed this recipe, my plans actually did include a big overhead shot of that giant bowl, tossed with a creamy yogurt dressing. But after I chopped up all the fruit, they begged me not to dull their colors with a coat of milky whiteness.
So we compromised and went parfait-style.

I might have mentioned (multiple times) how much in love with summer I am not. I won’t elaborate, but tell you that the one thing I do love about it is the fruit!
Everything is at it’s absolute ripest and juiciest, and I honestly can’t get enough.
This fruit salad recipe is something that I could easily call dinner as easily as I would call it breakfast. Not only does it have a hearty helping of your five-a-day fruit & vegetable quota, it’s topped with another of the healthiest snacks!
Dannon® Oikos® Traditional Greek Yogurt is the perfect base for the topping for this summer fruit salad.
Abe and I like to have a selection of yogurt in the house for quick snacks and on-the-go breakfasts. We always keep a larger tub of plain on hand, but when it comes to flavors, it’s anything goes depending on our moods.
Guys, Dannon is the king of yogurt flavors.
Fruits of all kind, chocolate, even caramel – they’ve got their selections down, and my favorites bounce around. Abe is a Key Lime-aholic, and I’m currently in love with the Orange Cream – it reminds me so much of those orange creamsicles from my childhood!
Combining the two with some lemon juice (to thin it out), citrus zest (for zing!), and poppy seeds (texture city!) made for a perfect fruit salad dressing that paired with each fruit in the mix and brought them together in a lovely, cohesive salad.
These guys are individually portioned, but this recipe could easily be multiplied for larger parties and served buffet style.
How do I make a fruit salad?
- 1. Before doing anything, wash all of your fruit! No matter where it came from.
- 2. Chop, chop! Carefully use a sharp knife to chop and slice all larger fruits into bite-sized pieces.
- 3. Layer the fruit – largest to smallest pieces – in parfait glasses or large stemless wine glasses. In our case, we went watermelon -> melon -> peaches -> strawberries -> blueberries.
- 4. Mix together your yogurts, citrus zests, juices, and poppy seeds in a small mixing bowl. Feel free to take creative control here with how much juice & zest you add, based on your preferences.
- 5. Dollop the fruit salad dressing on top of your layered fruit, and garnish with fresh mint if you’d like. I’m a fan of chopped mint in mine, but Abe doesn’t care for too much in his, so adjust amounts as needed.
- 6. Alternatively, you can also toss the fruit in the yogurt before placing it in the glasses if you’d like to.
How long can you keep fresh fruit salad in the fridge?
- • After preparing the fruit, refrigerate it within 2 hours. If storing for more than two hours, place it in airtight containers.
- • Properly stored, this fruit salad will last for about 3 to 5 days in the refrigerator. The yogurt dressing will last for up to 2 days.
